Preschool Appropriate Practices takes the approach of containing a chapter for each of the 13 learning centers in a preschool classroom, and shows teachers and students how to set up these centers for children's self-directed learning. It treats the teacher as a facilitator with creative ideas for involving children in all aspects of their learning including rule-making and curriculum planning. As the book title suggests, these activities integrate with the National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) developmentally appropriate practice (DAP), a nationally recommended set of early childhood practices.
