For Borrowing Loose Parts:

The following protocol has been developed to create an intentional and reflective approach for borrowing materials that supports educators’ practice as well as the growth of the initiative itself.

Please click here to review the loose parts protocol.

Highlights of loose parts protocol:

- Before you contact the materials initiative about borrowing loose parts, reflect together with your team and pedagogical leader (questions found in protocol)

- Browse materials on the website, speak with pedagogical lead about which products you would like, they will coordinate with us, and establish a plan for borrowing loose parts.

NOTE: Your pedagogical lead will be the point person so they will place the orders for products and write a note in the cart which program/room it is going to.

- After acquiring materials, create invitations and take photos (send them to materials@compasselc.com) to share the experience with everyone (Invitations will be credited to the programs that submit)

Returning Loose Parts

We value diverting waste from the landfill, and sustainability, and we want to make sure everyone has access to the open circulation of loose parts between programs. Please respect the materials and the goals of the initiative by ensuring:

- Products are to be returned in their original containers, (If you are intending on consuming items, let us know before hand as we will have to develop a plan to assist sourcing materials for you, i.e. how you can collect the items you want to use up).

- Products are cleaned and sanitised properly before being returned

- You will be borrowing the loose parts for a period of 3 weeks, you will receive reminder emails when it is time to return them. If you require a longer period of time with the materials, reach out to us.

For Borrowing Books:

To sign out a book you must login and place an order under your name or your program name.

When you “sign out” a book –by placing an order for it- you are responsible for the wellbeing and returning of this book. Whether you are returning the book or passing it on to someone else please follow the returning protocol below:

If you are finished with the book and returning it to the library or passing it to someone else:
1- Send an email to materials@compasselc.com with “RETURN [book title]” in the email title, and in the body of the email state a) the copy number of your book (so we can confirm it is back) b) where the book is for example, if placed in the library or passed to another person, provide their name.
2- We will initiate a return on our end and once confirmed that it is back we will complete the return.
3- Once the book is back in the system (even if not physically there, but you have given us notice who is going to have it), then you must get new holder of the book to place an order for the book so we can track it.

For Borrowing HCC Items:

- When requesting items, have conversations with your home visitor about the intentionality of how the product connects to your program.
- Your home visitor will deliver your items on their next home visit, unless other arrangements have been made directly with your home visitor.
- We encourage you to access products that are available within your region.
- If you browse the products from other regions, there would be a delay in delivery, communicate with your home visitor to determine pickup or delivery options.
- Each product that you borrow, will be loaned out to you for a period of time related to the frequency of your home visits. After which point, borrowed items should be returned in their original condition.
- There will be a charge for any dirty or broken items returned (a replacement or repair cost).
- Certain items require specific care:
o All strollers are to be kept covered (in a garage/ shed or under a tarp).
o Wooden toys, sensory tables/toys are to be brought in each day if taken outside.

General Guidelines for the website:

- Do not replicate any of the photographs with children's faces in them- credit photos if you use other ones.
