Sound

Sound, Auditory analysis,

”The ability to segregate sounds produced by different sources in the environment is essential for humans and other species for whom auditory information is relevant. This general skill allows us to follow speech in a noisy environment and to isolate melodic voices in polyphonic music.” - Caroline Bey and Stephan McAdams (2002)“Schema-based processing in auditory scene analysis” Preception& Psychiphysics 64(5):844-854.

Children find different sounds very fascinating, they love the sounds of shaking, banging/tapping objects together, musical instruments, crinkles, rhythm and rhyme. They enjoy creating sound by singing, making animal noises, shouting into different objects such as cups, tubes. They are proud of the sounds they can make and can share a language through the sounds they make, are they happy, sad, angry, etc.

Sound can be created in many ways, dropping down a metal stand, banging objects together, the sound of scooping/dumping and filling, testing sound through an object i.e tube.  Here are some objects that can facilitate the exploration of sound
